Nelson, representing Oregon, blazed to 7.24, five-hundredths of a second off her personal best of 7.19 done on 29 Jan.

Texas Longhorn’s Kevona Davis, who went into the final with a personal best of 7.29, finished sixth in 7.35 seconds.

Tamara Clark of Alabama took second in 7.28, the same time as Arkansas’ Jada Baylark for third place.

Nelson had booked her final spot with 7.28 earlier.

Jhevaughn Matherson, formerly of Kingston College (KC) in Jamaica, did not make the men’s 60m final. The Florida State athlete ran 6.79 for the 13th best time in the heats.

Xavier Nairne, who attended Wolmer’s in Jamaica, was the 16th fastest from the heats with 6.81, which was not good enough to make the final.

Nairne’s teammate Micah Williams won the event in 6.60 while Matherson’s teammate, Don’drea Swint, took second in 6.65.

The men’s 60m hurdles went according to the ranking, and Jamaican Damion Thomas came out with second in a season-best 7.69. Another Jamaican, Phillip Lemonious finished fourth in a personal best 7.72.

Trey Cunningham, the fastest college athlete this season, topped the event in 7.55.

Former Jamaica junior Daszay Freeman ran 8.16 for fifth in the women’s 60m hurdles, won by Grace Stark of Florida in 7.96.

St. Lucian Julien Alfred, the fastest over 60m this season, will run the 200m on Saturday. Nelson and Davis are also down for the 200m.

  1. Kemba have an awesome start, the kind of start that causes her opponents to panic. If Kevona’s technique coach can get her to improve and even attain a bullet start, she would be a formidable sprinter. Her top end speed is superb!

  2. Kemba went to a non traditional high school so she was not exposed to certain kind of training now getting A one training it is showing.. Also while at Utech Franno naah mek she beat Elaine so let’s see as she climbs the NCAA ladder..
