Two of Jamaica’s rising stars Kevona Davis and Kemba Nelson will face-off Friday (12 Feb) at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Jamaicans Kemba Nelson, Kevona Davis and Ackera Nugent finished last weekend’s (29 May) NCAA West Regionals with personal best times.

The NCAA West Regionals Live Stream, which was on YouTube, saw several other brilliant performances, especially from Athing Mu and Twanisha Terry.

In the women’s 100m hurdles, Nugent stormed to an impressive 12.76 seconds to be the West Preliminary Championships’ fastest going into nationals.

Nugent’s mark is the fourth fastest on the world U20 list. Jamaican Britany Anderson holds the world record with 12.71.
Americans Dior Hall, 12.74 and Chanel Brissett, 12.75, are just ahead of Nugent.

Fellow Jamaican Daszay Freeman, representing Arkansas, also qualified with 12.92.

Nelson, formerly of Mount Alvernia and University of Technology (UTech), broke 11secs for the first time with 10.98 to secure her place for Oregon. Nelson also ran 10.91 in the heats, but a +2.1m/s wind-aided this performance.

Less than an hour after running the hurdles, Nugent, a former Excelsior High student, returned with 11.15, which gave her a safe ticket in the 100m.
Twanisha Terry of USC recorded the fastest time of 10.89.

Davis, former Edwin Allen star, won her quarter-final heat in a personal best of 22.87 to secure her ticket to the semi-final round at Nationals.
Terry is also the fastest in the 200m with 22.54 ahead of Davis’ Texas Longhorn teammate Kynnedy Flannel, 22.65.

Jamaicans Stacey-Ann Williams, representing Texas Longhorn, 50.34, and Charokee Young of Texas A&M, 50.85, both with personal best times, qualified from the west with the second and fourth fastest times.

American and Texas A&M star Athing Mu’s 49.69secs time set new personal best, facility record, and collegiate record.

St. Vincent and The Grenadines and Arkansas Shafiqua Maloney ran 2:03.30 to qualify as the second-fastest 800-metre athlete from the west. Aaliyah Miller of Baylor leads the way with 2:02.13.
