Kingston College and Edwin Allen won their respective titles, but day five of Champs 2022, the ISSA-Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championships belonged to Brianna Lyston.

KC finished atop the standing with 372 points, ahead of JC 300.83 and Calabar 170. Edwin Allen won their eighth straight title with 352 points to beat Hydel 295 and St. Jago 249.

Champs 2022 Final Points Standing

The 17-year-old Hydel student blazed the track, three days after she narrowly lost the 100 meters, to make history.

Lyston ran an impressive 22.53 seconds, into a negative 2.2m/s wind, to erase an 18-year-old Class 1 girls’ record of 22.71 set by Vere Tech’s Simone Facey. She beat her nearest rival, Kaylia Kelly of Vere, by more than a second – 23.59.

Nine other records were broken on Champs 2022’s final day, including the Class 1 girls’ sprint relay mark, which went to Edwin Allen High’s team of Serena Cole, Tina Clayton, Brandy Hall and Tia Clayton in 43.28 seconds, a new world high school record.

BOYS AND GIRLS CHAMPS 2022 – DAY 5 RESULTS

Kerrica Hill of Hydel ran 12.71 for a new Class 2 girls’ 100-meter hurdles record, adding to her 11.16 mark in the 100 meters. Hill’s teammate, Oneka Wilson, clocked 13.00 flat to set a new Class 1 girls’ 100-meter hurdles record.

Camoy Binger of St. Jago ran 10.87 for a new Class 3 girls’ 80-meter hurdles record, while Hydel’s Malayia Duncan’s 10.38 mark is also a new record in the Class 4 girls’ 70-meter hurdles.

The records on the boys’ side came from Jamaica College’s (JC) Zachary Campbell, who threw 56.49 meters in the Class 2 boys’ discus, and Aaron McKenzie of KC cleared 2.11 in the Class 2 boys’ high jump.

Natrece East of Wolmer’s Girls won the Class 4 200-meter final in 24.62 to complete the sprint double. Edwin Allen High’s Theianna-Lee Terrelonge won the 200 meters for Class 3 girls’ in 23.91 to add to her 100-meter title.
