BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (27 April) – Jamaican athletes dominated at the Louisiana State University Invitational on Thursday. Shanieka Ricketts won the women’s triple jump, while Jaydon Hibbert set a new U20 world record in the men’s triple jump.
Ricketts leaped to victory with a distance of 14.06 meters, aided by a tailwind of 1.9m/s. Hibbert soared to a distance of 17.17 meters, breaking the U20 world record and establishing himself as one of the most promising young athletes in the sport.
Other notable performances included Ackera Nugent’s victory in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.52 (+0.2) and Philip Lemonius’ upset win over Omar McLeod in the men’s hurdles with a time of 13.63 (-0.2).
Aleia Hobbs continued her excellent form this year, winning the women’s 100m with a time of 11.04 seconds (+1.0), followed by Mikiah Brisco (11.15) and British sprinter Imani Lansiquot (11.16).
In the field events, Tara Davis-Woodhall won the women’s long jump with a legal distance of 6.86 meters (+0.8) and a windy distance of 7.05 meters (+5.9). Roje Stona of Jamaica set a personal best in the discus with a throw of 67.02 meters, while John Meyer won the shot put with a throw of 20.42 meters.
On the track, Shamier Little won the women’s 400m with a time of 50.61, and Britton Wilson set a season-best time of 55.76 in the women’s 400m hurdles.
In the men’s events, Ryan Willie won the 400m with a personal best time of 44.93, and Vernon Norwood took home the title in the 200m with a time of 20.41 (-0.2). Godson Oghenebrume from Nigeria finished first in the men’s 100m with a time of 10.01 (+3.3), followed by Da’Marcus Fleming in second with a time of 10.10 and Erriyon Knighton in third with a time of 10.13.
The LSU team impressed, winning the men’s 4x100m relay with a time of 38.26.
