Candice McLeod was the best-placed Jamaican at the Ostrava Golden Spike, a part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Series, on Tuesday, May 31, in the Czech Republic.

Candice McLeod ran a season-best time of 50.38 seconds to take second in the women’s 400m. She was beaten by Polish Natalia Kaczmarek, who ran 50.16 seconds.

Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas ran 12.88 seconds, and Jamaica’s Olympic Games bronze medallist Megan Tapper, 13.12 seconds, finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

Canadian Jerome Blake ran 20.14 secs to beat Elijah Hall of the United States, 20.14 and Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes, 20.29 secs.

One of the world’s most decorated sprinters, Allyson Felix, turned out for her last Ostrava Golden Spike and ran 22.78 for third in the women’s 200m. She was beaten by Aminatou Seyni, who ran a Nigerian record of 22.21 secs.

Felix, who confirmed 2022 will be the last season, won 29 medals for the USA at Olympic Games and World Championships.

Alexander Ogando of the Dominican Republic won the men’s 400m dash in 45.37 secs ahead of Liemarvin Bonevacia of the Netherlands, 45.55 seconds.
