Damion Thomas wins U20 boys 110m hurdles

Jamaican Damion Thomas was in record-breaking form on Saturday (6 February) at the Charlie Thomas Invitational in College Station, Texas.

Thomas, the Tampere 2018 World U20 champion, ran 7.72 to set a new meet record. The old mark was 7.78.

The 21-year-old 110m hurdles U20 world record holder just missed his season-best of 7.71, done on 22 January in Arkansas. His personal best indoor is 7.74secs.

LSU’s Eric Edwards Jr. ran 7.78 for second and Bashiru Abdullahi of UTSA, 7.80 for third place in the final.

Chanel Brissett took 8.10 seconds to get across the line first in the women’s 60m hurdles. LSU’s duo of Milan Young, 8.14 and Alia Armstrong, 8.21 took the minor places.

Jania Martin of Texas A&M won the women’s 200m in 23.44, a personal best effort, which took her across the line ahead of Ariyonna Augustine of LSU, 23.61.

Demarius Smith of Oklahoma came out on top of the men’s 200m with a personal best 20.83, the only sub-21 of the day.

Christian Hamberlin of Houston finished second in 21.07 and LSU’s Charles Lewis, third in 21.09.
