Jamaica missed out on hosting the 2021 staging of the  IAAF World Relays. The fifth edition of the event will go to Europe for the first time in 2021.
The IAAF on Wednesday (28 Aug) confirmed the Polish region of Silesia as host.

Dr Warren Blake, president of the JAAA, indicated last year that Jamaica was interested in staging the 2021 edition, base on communication with the IAAF.
“So I have replied to them to say yes, the federation is interested,” Dr Blake was quoted as saying.

One of the requirements, however, is a financial guarantee of US$67 mullion.

The Bahamas hosted the first three editions of the event but pulled out at the last minute in 2019, which saw Japanese city of Yokohama played host.

According to an IAAF release, “Poland has a proven track record of hosting major athletics events.”
Bydgoszcz hosted the inaugural IAAF World U18 Championships in 1998 followed by two editions of the IAAF World U20 Championships and IAAF World Cross Country Championships.

IAAF President Sebastian Coe welcomed Silesia as the first European host of the IAAF World Relays.

“The World Relays is our youngest global event, but in just six years it has developed a vibrancy that gives it a unique character,” Coe said in a release.
“Its focus on team races allows our athletes to show a different side to their sport, and their joy in competing with teammates shines through.”
“We have been blessed with wonderfully enthusiastic crowds at every edition of the World Relays, and we are confident that the people of Silesia will provide another lively atmosphere,” he said.

The 2021 IAAF World Relays will be used as a qualifying competition for relay teams aiming to compete at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Oregon 2021.
