SAN SALVADOR – Jamaica ended the 2016 North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Championships with four gold, four silver and one bronze medals on Sunday (17 July).
United States of America topped the medal standing with 25 gold, 26 silver and 11 bronze medals while Canada ended third with 4-2-9 as 15 countries in total got medals.
On Sunday’s final day, new entrant to Jamaica’s track and field, Kali Davis-White was the clear winner in the women’s 200m. She ran 22.66 to beat Cuban, Arialis J Gandulla, 23.36 and Robin Reynolds of USA, 23.40 (+2.6m/s wind).
USA won the men’s 4x400m by clocking the fastest time of the year by a national team, 3:00.89 to beat Jamaica with Twaine Crooks, Martin Manley, Keeno Burrell and 400m champion Nathon Allen, 3:04.11 and Bahamas, 3:04.74. The Bahamas quartet was Maverick Bowleg, Ashley Riley, Janeko Cartwright and Stephen Newbold.
USA also won the women’s mile relay in 3:28.45.
Jamaica with Sonikqua Walker, Dawnalee Lonely, Samantha James and 400m champion, Chrisann Gordon, finished second in 3:32.06.
In the 400m hurdles, Americans Kiah Seymour, 56.19 and Khalifah Rosser, 49.25 topped their respective finals.
In the women’s long jump, Quanesha Burks 6.74m (-1.0m/s) beat Akela Jones of Barbados, 6.74m (-1.6m/s).
