Jamaica closed the show at the World Indoor Championships – Belgrade 22 – with gold in the women’s 4×400-meter relay on Sunday, March 21.

The quartet of Junelle Bromfield, Janieve Russell, Roneisha McGregor and Stephenie-Ann McPherson crossed the line in 3:28.40 seconds to win the World Indoor Championships 4x400m title. McPherson, who clocked a national record 50.79 seconds and was beaten to the silver medal by Dutch rival Femke Bol in the individual 400 meters the previous day, got her revenge.

McPherson took over a decent lead from third-leg runner Roneisha McGregor and had enough left in reserve to push again in the home straight and bring the baton home in 3:28.40 ahead of her statuesque Dutch rival.

Bol, who had not run in the morning’s qualifying round, had enough energy to move her team through to silver after taking the baton in fourth place, coming through on the inside to record 3:28.57 seconds.

Poland finished third in 3:28.59 and USA fourth in 3:28.63. Jamaica with McGregor, Russell, Tiffany James and Bromfield had earlier finished behind Poland in the heats, 3:30.51 to 3:30.91 seconds.

Kimberly Williams took bronze in the women’s triple jump final. She jumped season-best 14.62m. Venezuela’s world and Olympic triple jump champion Yulimar Rojas improved her own world indoor and outright records to 15.74m with her sixth and last effort at the World Indoor Championships Belgrade 22.

Natoya Goule finished just outside of the medals in the women’s 800 meters. Her time of 2:01.18 placed her fourth in the event won by the USA’s Ajee Wilson in 1:59.09.
