Jamaica won four relay medals on Saturday’s final track and day at the #CG2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia’s Gold Coast.
On the day when St. Lucian Levern Spencer cleared 1.95m for high jump glory, the black, green and gold nation won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Christine Day, Anastasia Le-Roy, Janieve Russell and Stephenie McPherson, running from lane eight, ran away with the women’s 4x400m gold in 3:24.00.
Nigeria finished second in 3:25.29 while Botswana ran a national record 3:26.86.
Olympic sprint double champion Elaine Thompson anchored Jamaica to silver in the women’s 4x100m. The team, led off by Christania Williams to Natasha Morrison and included Gayon Evans, crossed the line in 42.52 behind England 42.52.
In the men’s 4x100m, Jamaica’s quartet of Everton Clarke, Oshane Bailey, Warren Weir and Yohan Blake finished in 38.35 behind England’s national record of 38.13 and South Africa 38.13.
Jermaine Gayle, Demish Gaye, Jamari Rose and Javon Francis combined for 3:01.97 to take bronze in a very close men’s 4x400m final behind Botswana 3:01.78 and Bahamas 3:01.92.
Trinidad and Tobago ended 4th in 3:02.85.
