Jamaica’s track and field queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran her fastest 100m time since 2019 at Friday’s (28 May) Diamond League meet.

Fraser-Pryce, who is usually a fast starter, recorded the fastest last 40 meters.

The Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games 100m champion ran the first 20 metres in 3.1 seconds. She was timed in 5.1 at 40m and 7.0 at 60m.

Fraser-Pryce lights up Doha

Fraser-Pryce’s 80m time was a fast 8.9 seconds, the fastest of the field.

She crossed the line in 10.84 seconds, making her the third-fastest woman in 2021 behind Sha’Carri Richardson, 10.72 and Elaine Thompson-Herah, 10.78.

American Javianne Oliver matched Fraser-Pryce for the first 40 metres but dropped back 7.1 to 7.0 at the 60m mark.

Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria, who trailed Oliver 3.2 to 3.1 at 20m, 5.2 to 5.1 at 40m, finished very strong.

They were timed at 7.1secs and 9.0secs at 60m and 80m marks, but Okagbare closed fastest in the last 20m to finish with 10.90 to Oliver 11.03.
