In its third year, the Cayman Invitational assembles some of the fastest and dominating sprinters in the world.
This will be Dawn Harper-Nelson’s first appearance at the meet. Last year at the meet in the women 100-meter hurdles, Trinidad and Tobago’s Aleesha Barber won with a time of 13.04.
“This is my first time going to the Cayman Islands and first time racing at the Cayman Invitational. My husband (Alonzo Nelson) got a chance to race last year and told me it was so beautiful. He had a wonderful experience. I know they have put together a very competitive race; so, I am really looking forward to it."
Harper Nelson continued: “I am really excited to line-up with the other young ladies. Really go out there, focus on myself, putting together my race this year. This will not be my first race of the season, because before Drake I had not lined-up with anyone before. So, after talking to my coach, I had to change my mindset to a different mode. Specifically, staying in my lane, focus on me, and just putting together my race.”
She won gold in the event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the silver in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
