Jamaica’s Olympic Games silver medallist Sanjay Ayre is celebrating his 40th birthday today – 19 June.

Ayre, one of Jamaica’s best quarter milers of all time, won silver at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

He represented Jamaica for many years, starting at the Carifta Games in Barbados 1997 with 4x400m gold and Martinique 1999 with 400m gold.

Ayre also won two silver medals Edmonton 2001 and Paris 2003, along with bronze Helsinki 2005, at the World Championships level. He helped Jamaica to gold at the Budapest 2004 World Indoor Championships.

He won several other medals at Pan Am Games, Central American and Caribbean Games, World Junior Championships and Pan Am Juniors.

The former Calabar and Excelsior High student, who is now coaching, is determined to help the next generation of Jamaican sprinters.
