Two-time Carifta Games 400m hurdles gold medallist, Kimone Green, was in the best form of her life at last weekend’s Southland Conference Championships in Texas.
Green, who won the Under-20 400m hurdles at the 2013 and 2014 Carifta Games, ran a personal best 57.78 seconds to win the event for Abilene Christian.
The former St. Elizabeth Technical and Mico University College student, after running 1-minute 00.21 seconds for the third in the prelims, beat San Houston State’s Ruth Amaku 58.82 and Kryshell Rolle of Nicholls State 59.31 to take the title.
“I am very happy with my PR,” Green said while explaining why she is so happy “I was struggling to get comfortable during the season due to the fact that this is my first time running 400m hurdles outdoor since I came out to college.”
Green, who celebrates her 21st birthday on May 23rd, while praising herself also says “thanks to my coach Reyare Thomas, who also represented Trinidad and Tobago in the 200m and ran the 3rd leg on the 4x100m relay team for motivating me.”
She continued: “I also want to thank everyone who supported me. Last but not least, I want to thank God for giving me strength each and every time I go out to compete.”
“I am not sure how the rest of my season will be, but I hope for the best with whatsoever decision my coach and I make,” she told TrackAlerts.com
Green, along with former Holmwood athlete, Petrene Plummer, helped Abilene Christian to second in the women’s 4x400m 3:41.34 behind Sam Houston State 3:40.00. Plummer, 2:13.89 was fifth in the women’s 800m, won by Dominique Allen of Incarnate Word in 2:10.34.
