They were both timed at 10.88 to win their respective heats. In heat 2, Fraser-Pryce had dismissed a stern challenge from Dutch lass, Dafne Schippers, leading her all the way to the line. After the race, her fans hearts must have fluttered, as she winced as though in pain and got quite emotional as she accepted congratulations from the field.

Thompson was sheer relaxed speed as she cruised home with supreme confidence ahead of US champion, English Gardner.
The Francis magic wand had its wave from in the first heat, where Trinidad & Tobago’s Michelle Lee Ahye in 10.90 was triumphant with new girl, the MVP track club out of Jamaica girl, Christania Williams , third, in a personal best of 10.96 to be a provisional qualifier. She had to wait trackside, in anxiety until the last heat to confirm her advance.

The other semi-finalist from Trinidad & Tobago, Semoy Hackett, did not make it, as she was 5th in heat 3 with 11.20.
