Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah looked impressive during Thursday’s opening round of the women’s 100m at the Jamaica Olympic Trials.

World 100m champion Fraser-Pryce, in heat 1 with a 1.1m/s tailwind, cruised across the line in 10.97 seconds. She was in total control from about 50m.

Shashalee Forbes was second to Fraser-Pryce, the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games 100m champion, in 11.13.

Remona Burchell and Ashanti Moore, both finished strong, running 11.14 and 11.15, respectively.

Thompson-Herah, the defending Olympic Games 100m/200m champion, ease down about 80 meters and eased across the line in 10.96.
Natalliah Whyte followed Thompson-Herah across the line in 11.14.

Briana Williams and Kemba Nelson almost ran neck and neck in heat 4. Williams won the heat in 11.00, and Nelson finished second in 11.05.
Kevona Davis finished third in the heat in 11.19.

However, the day’s fastest time came from Shericka Jackson, who ran 10.91 to take heat 3. The mark was a huge personal best for the Doha World 400m bronze medallist.
She won ahead of her MVP training partner Natasha Morrison, 11.06.

In the men’s 100m, Yohan Blake, the 2011 world champion, was the fastest with 10.03.
Davonete Burnett, the heat 3 winner, recorded the second-fastest time of 10.05.
Julian Forte won heat 4 in 10.08, head of Oblique Seville, who got the same time. Tyquendo Tracey topped heat 1 in 10.13.

Jaheel Hyde, 49.14, Andre Clarke, 49.38 and Shawn Rowe, 49.57 are the men under 50 seconds in the 400m hurdles. They led the qualifiers going into the final.
