Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce became the second-fastest woman in history on this day, 5 June 2021.

At the JOA/JAAA Destiny Series Meet at the National Stadium in Kingston, Fraser-Pryce ran 10.63 for a new Jamaican record. The time makes her second-fastest female sprinter, only behind American Florence Griffith-Joyner’s (Flo Jo) 10.49 done in 1988.

Fraser-Pryce and Olympic Games sprint double champion Elaine Thompson, who is down to run later today at the NACAC New Life Invitational, were joint Jamaican record holder with 10.70.

Americans Carmelita Jeter, 10.64, and Marion Jones, 10.65, were above Fraser-Pryce on the world’s top list before today.

The new record run was priceless as Fraser-Pryce, who got a perfect start, leaving her competitors in the blocks, eased across the finish line with chest high.

Natasha Morrison, who trailed from start to finish, got another sub-11 second. She finished in 10.95, a distance away from Fraser-Pryce and her personal best of 10.87 done three weeks ago in Florida.

Kashieka Cameron finished third in 11.39 and Jodean Williams fourth in 11.44.
