World 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is ready for Sunday’s (23 May) Gateshead Diamond League clash with American rising star Sha’Carri Richardson.

Fraser-Pryce, who won the Doha 2019 world 100m title, adding to three others in her career, will take on Richardson in heat 1 of the women’s 100m.

“Ready for race day tomorrow!!,” said Fraser-Pryce, a two-time Olympic Games 100m gold medal winner.

Fraser-Pryce has only run two 200m races this season, with her best time 22.66s in Kingston last month.

“It’s been a while since my last international race, and I miss this feeling. Fueled. Focused. Ready,” she wrote.

Elaine Thompson-Herah should have been in the race but withdrew.

British world 200m champion Dina Asher-Smith and Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria,  Marie-Josée TA LOU of Ivory Coast and American Javianne OLIVER should add spark to the field.

Two other Jamaicans, Natasha Morrison and Natalliah Whyte, are on the startlist.

    • Linstead St Catherine while we do understand most persons see things different. I’ve listened past interviews with this young lady and what is always consistent is what she meant. In my own words “she being ready for a race is not always to win but to execute and improve for the greater good. She has nothing to prove all she need to do is do her best”. So we can just say this lady is running her own race!! We just have to pray she’s in great shape throughout the season and that’s it.

  1. I feel like Fraser Pryce is winning this one. She is the one with the least pressure because her legacy has already been secured no matter how fast she runs here.

  2. Shelly has already proved herself. Having a child and is able to compete and win gold. That’s a big achievement. If Richardson wants to be at her level she has go and have a child and come back again.

  3. I will be shocked if Shelly win this one. She is running to make some money and to get herself ready to win when it matters most at the Big Dance. JA will be 1/2 at the Olympics mark my words

  4. If Shelly says she’s ready, then she’s ready.
The American hope could be in for a rude awakening! A fit and ready Shelly is giving us 10. 70 , is the pretender ready for that kind of power from the blocks and exhilaration?
Let’s see! We’ve been there before and we know the score!

  5. The weather will be lousy in Gateshead tonight: rainy and windy, temperature 12C. Extremely bad weather for sprinters (or for anyone, for that matter…).

    • Hannu Savolainen her strides are too short. And she doesnt come out of the bend as quick as i hoped. If she were to beat Miller she has to come out the bend atleast 3 to 5 meters ahead. Otherwise she is within millers striking range.

    • I agree running fast times now is great but if you can’t perform and run the tines when it counts it’s all for nothing that is what real.champions do look at Andre deGrasse they beat him all year and for every championship he is on the medal table that is what real champions do she has yet to prove that

    • Kolesi Ikahihifo It doesn’t matter about times. It’s about going through the rounds and not allowing the occasion to overwhelm you. Americans always come with the fastest time but never always produce it at the finals. Shelly and Elaine has been there done that so have nothing to prove.
