Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce continued to prove her world-class status with another fantastic display at Jamaica Olympic Trials on Friday (25 June).

Fraser-Pryce was out quick, and as expected, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah were chasing. None was able to catch Fraser-Pryce, who crossed the line in 10.71 seconds.

Jackson, who staggered out the blocks, finished strong in 10.82 and Thompson-Herah, third in 10.84. Jackson ran sizzling 10.77 in the semi-finals.

Briana Williams finished fourth in. 11.01.

The men’s 100m national title went to Tyquendo Tracey in 10.00 ahead of Yohan Blake, 10.01 and Oblique Seville, 10.04.

Russell over Whyte in 400m hurdles

Janieve Russell came through to take the top spot in the women’s 400m hurdles. She was an easy winner in 54.07, a season-best effort.

Ronda Whyte won the battle for the minor places. She crossed the line in 54.94 ahead of Leah Nugent, 54.98 and Shian Salmon, 55.00.

Jaheel Hyde produced an excellent personal best, 48.18, to win the men’s 400m hurdles. Hyde, who was in total control from start to finish, beat Shawn Rowe, 49.60 and Kemar Mowatt, 49.61.

In the women’s discus, Samantha Hall threw 62.94 to upset Shadae Lawrence, 61.62. Lawrence threw 67.05m for a new Jamaican record in May.

Chanice Porter was the women’s long jump winner with 6.36m. She beat Taishia Pryce, who got 6.27m on her final attempt.

Tissanna Hickling took third place with 6.22m.

  1. I was disappointed that there weren’t more sub 11 seconds. I was expecting 5 ladies dipping below 11 in finals.
