Jamaica’s 2013 World Championship long jump finalist Damar Forbes opened his 2015 season with a great win at the 108th renewal of the NYRR Millrose Games in New York on Saturday.

Forbes dismissed a quality field which included Olympic Long Jump bronze medalist and multiple Triple Jump medalist Will Claye and top class Decathlete Ashton Eaton to come out victorious in the USMC Men’s Long Jump.

Forbes, who was playing second fiddle to Will Clay for most of the competition, went ahead on his penultimate jump before fowling on his final attempt. He produced a leap of 8.03 metres to better the 8.02 metres done by Claye.

Ashton Eaton’s 7.70 metres was good enough for third as all three Jumpers were representing NIKE.

Forbes, a former standout at Louisiana State University, who has a personal best of 8.25m was pretty pleased with his effort. This was evident as he took to social media site Facebook to praise himself on a decent opener.

“Good season opener tho looking to capitalize on it in the months to come” he said. Forbes is gearing up for the World Championship slated for Beijing China from August 22-30.
