Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanayala has made history by running the fastest time ever recorded in the month of February, clocking an impressive 9.86 seconds in his 100m heat at the AK Weekend Meet held in Nyayo Stadium.

“You haven’t seen anything yet…expect a sub 9.8 secs in the final,” said Omanyala.
Omanayala’s victory at the AK Weekend Meet is all the more remarkable, given the calibre of athletes who were present. Among them was Africa 4x100m gold medallist Samuel Imeta from the Kenya Defence Forces, who won the fifth heat with the second-fastest time of 10.20. South Africa’s Henricho Bruintjies, however, struggled in the second heat after a mishap at the blocks saw him finish in sixth place with a time of 10.94.
Omanayala’s compatriot, Steve Onyango, finished second in the third heat with a time of 10.34, while Pius Adom from Uganda won the seventh heat with the third-fastest time of 10.31, beating his compatriot Benson Okot to second place in 10.35. Tyson Omondi claimed the first heat in 10.52, while Benson Mutende from the Kenya Defence Forces won the sixth heat in 10.59.
Omanayala is confident he can go even faster, predicting a sub 9.8 seconds time in the final. He and Onyango will now proceed to the semi-finals scheduled for Saturday, with fans eager to see if Omanayala can maintain his impressive form and clinch victory in the final.
