Allyson Felix failed in her bid to chase athe 200m/400m double at next month’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The London 2012 Olympic champion finished fourth in 22.54 at the US Olympic Trials today and will not be able to defend her title.

“Honestly, I’m disappointed. All year I planned for this race, and for it to end here, it’s disappointing. But when I look back and see everything that happened, I still think it’s quite amazing that I was able to make this team. I feel like everything was against me,” said Felix, the world 400m champion.

“I don’t think I need races at this point. I think I need some work, some rest and recovery, and to take the time that we have just to get back and try to perfect the 400m,” added Felix.

Tori Bowie won the event final in 22.25 ahead of Deajah Stevens, 22.30 and Jenna Prandini, 22.53.

“It’s like a dream come true, coming to the Olympic trails and leaving being the champion. I couldn’t ask for more,” said Bowie.

“I’m satisfied and content with where I am at right now, but this is just a stepping stone to Rio. I know my weaknesses and I know my strong points. I had to execute my race and hold on with what I have,” Bowie added.

Stevens said: “It hasn’t hit me yet. I’m super excited, I’m speechless. I wasn’t expecting this, of course I wanted it but I wasn’t sure. I just went for it.”

Prandini commented: “The whole field was full of amazing girls, so I was honored to get to race with all of them, and I’m just so excited to go to Rio.”

  1. This is why the Jamaican trial system is better than the USA. If the USA was using Jamaica’s system, Allyson could have gotten a medical exemption because of her ankle problem.. We all know Allyson is better than the 3 people who finish ahead of her.. it should not just be about winning that day. it should be about the best team and this is why the Jamaican system is better .If the US don’t medal in the 200 what good is it when you have the best 200m runner sitting down?
