Elaine Thompson-Herah continued to stride towards her Eugene goals with victory and a meet record in the Rabat Diamond League 100 meters.

Elaine Thompson-Herah stormed to a 10.82-second first-place finish, about a meter ahead of fellow Tokyo 2020 Olympic finalist Marie-Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast (11.04), while Natasha Morrison had to settle for third place.

“I feel amazing about the race today. This is my third time in Rabat and I’m super excited about the new meeting record of 10.83,” said Elaine Thompson-Herah.

Bahamian Anthonique Strachan who was in lane 8, suffered some confusion at the gun and failed to even leave her line as the race started.

In the women’s 400 meters, it was a Caribbean sweep, led by Tokyo’s silver medalist Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic (50.10). Sada Williams of Barbados ran 50.74 for second place and Jamaican Stephanie Ann McPherson finished third in 51.37.

The triple jump also saw the continued dominance of Caribbean women this season, with Dominican Thea LaFond and Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts battling it out for the top of the podium. Although the Jamaican jumped a season’s best 14.43 meters, it would not be enough to overcome LaFond’s 14.46. Slovenia’s Neja Filipič kept pace with the Olympic finalists and jumped a personal best of 14.42 for third.

Despite Sunday being Karsten Warholm’s season debut, the day saw him pull up after the first hurdle with an apparent hamstring injury. Khallifah Rosser took advantage of his absence with a 48.25 victory. Jamaican Jaheel Hyde finished a close fifth in 48.35.
