SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica – Tina Clayton won the sprint double to lead Edwin Allen to victory, while St. Jago came out atop of the boys’ section on Thursday’s (22 April) final day of Central Champs.

Edwin Allen won the Championships with 317 points ahead of Hydel 281, St. Jago 268.5, Vere 159 and Holmwood 158.5

St. Jago topped the boys’ section with 338 points, well ahead of Edwin Allen 175, Clarendon College 123, Vere 94 and St. Catherine 66.

In the 100m, the 16-year-old Clayton won in 11.39, five-hundredths of a second fastest than section five winner Brianna Lyston, 11.44.

Tia Clayton, who seemed to hurt herself in the 100m heat with Lyston, finished in 11.60 for third overall in the time final event.

Tina Clayton returned on Thursday’s (22 April) day 2 to take the Class 2 girls’ 200m in 23.67. Hydel’s Kerrica Hill, the winner of heat 4, finished second overall in wind-aided (2.1m/s) 23.94.

Vere’s Malik Carridice won the boys’ Class 3 sprint double. He won the 100m in 11.29 and 200m in 23.64.

Tyrice Taylor of Vere was also hot. He ran 47.27 to beat Champs 2019 class 2 champion Tahj Hamm of Holmwood, 47.28.

Edwin Allen’s Brandy Hall won Class 1 girls 100m in 11.73, while St. Jago took Classes 3 and 4 with Camoy Binger 12.03 and Poshanna-Lee Blake 12.44.

Sandrey Davison of St. Catherine topped the boys’ Class 1 100m in 10.61. St. Jago’s Tajai Duffus was the Class 2 winner in 10.84.

Serena Cole of Edwin Allen won the Class 2 girls’ long jump with a leap of 5.94m.

Record Marks
Deijanae Bruce of Edwin Allen cleared 1.70m to set a new girls’ Class 3 high jump record. She beat the previous mark of 1.68m set by Vere’s Annishka McDonald back in 2019.

Christopher Young of Edwin Allen threw 61.60m to better his 2020 record mark in the open javelin record.

St. Jago’s Balvin Israel also set a new meet record. His mark of 7.02m bettered Kevin Kerr’s 2018 mark of 6.89m came in the Class 2 boys’ long.

Demario Prince of St. Jago also entered the record books with 1.93m to beat the Class 2 boys’ high jump mark.

McDonald, who watched her Class 3 record disappeared, cleared 1.80m for a new Class 2 girls’ high jump record.

Shantae Foreman of St. Jago won the Class 1 girls’ high jump with a clearance of 1.80m.

Brandon Lloyd of Clarendon College threw 60.28m to win the Class 1 boys’ discus.

Edwin Allen’s Rushana Dwyer 2:12.06 in Class 1 and Rhianna Gayle 2:11.79 in Class 2 were the fastest 800m runners on Thursday’s final day.
