Track and Field fans around the world got a glimpse of what is to come in Rio from Jamaica’s 100m men, as they sent a clear signal to the world that they are ready for action.
The race was not without drama, as there was a false start charged to Yohan Blake, caused near pandemonium in the National Stadium, the venue for the 2016 Supreme Ventures Jamaica Championships on Friday, July 1.
Blake refused to leave the track as the other athletes refuted the finding. When the smoke cleared and the race was finally contested, Yohan Blake emerged the winner in a time of 9.95.
Blake, the 2011 world champion, said: “Give thanks to God. I am ready to go. It has being going really well. I am just keeping my composure.”
Nickel Ashmeade was second, in a time of 9.96 and Jevaughn Minzie, 10.02 seconds, for third.
Long time standard bearer Asafa Powell, finished fourth in 10.03, while Commonwealth Champion, Kemar Bailey-Cole, finished also at 10.03 seconds.
The final spot to complete the relay pool, was taken by Senoj Jay Givans, in, 10.06 seconds.
