Daina Levy has became the first Jamaican hammer thrower to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Levy, who had only two legal throws at Lawrence Last Chance meet for Throws and Horizontal Jumps athletes, won with a throw of 71.48m on Saturday (25 June).

The mark is also a new National record, beating her previous best of 69.01m done in May 2015.

Janeah Stewart, 56.16m and Dasha Tsema, 55.89m were second and third respectively.

The Kansas State University student joins discus athletes Kellion Knibb, Tarasue Barnett and Shadae Lawrence as Jamaican throwers to qualify for the Olympic Games.
