World Athletics CEO Jon Ridgeon responded to a letter from the “Global Throwing Group” complaining about Diamond League changes.
In his open letter, Ridgeon said in part: “After ten years of existence, the market demanded that the Diamond League product now evolve, as evidenced by the fact that the league has not enjoyed the presence of a title sponsor for the last eight years.”
“As a result, we have listened to our broadcasters and fans and made changes, some of which were announced this week,” he added.
“World Athletics has invested time and considerable funds to create a new strong one-day Meeting series – the World Athletics Continental Tour.”
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s World discus silver medallist Fedrick Dacres has said he is not surprised by the decision to cut the discus from next year’s Diamond League.
He told Jamaica Gleaner: “I hoped that they wouldn’t have, but it is what it is. We are trying to fight the situation based on what is going on. It’s the hand that we are dealt and we are trying to fight the situation.”

I could not agree more that he is showing his real face. What fans did they listen to who wanted this change? It is all about the sponsors and broadcasters and no longer about the athletes. Did not see that it was the field events that really carried the day(s) at the just concluded World Championships? In the land of the blind the one eyed man is God!
