The Mississippi State track and field team travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the three-day Crimson Tide Invitational at the University of Alabama’s Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium from April 8-10.

“Our expectations for this meet are the same as they are every week; it’s kind of like beating the same drum,” said head coach Chris Woods in his press conference. “We just want to go and execute some of the same things we do at practice. If we execute all of our jumps, throws and runs, if we do it with the approach of execution, we’ll continue to build off some of the things we’ve been doing these last few weeks.”

On Thursday, Shayla Broughton, Asia Poe, and Aley Woodberry will be competing in their first heptathlon competition of the outdoor season. Woodberry has not competed in the heptathlon previously, whereas Broughton has a personal best of 5,059 points and Poe with 5,104 points. All three student-athletes competed in the pentathlon during the indoor season, with Broughton competing at the NCAA Championships in the event as well. They will complete the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200m dash on Thursday.

Friday, the meet will start out with the heptathlon’s completion, including the long jump, javelin, and 800m, in that order. The competition will continue that day with the men’s hammer, women’s and men’s 1500m, as well as the men’s and women’s 5000m.

Saturday’s competition will include the discus, long jump, 100m and 110m hurdles, 400m, javelin, high jump, 800m, and 4x400m relay.

Competing along with the Bulldogs will be Alabama, Georgia Tech, Indiana State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, LSU, Memphis, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane, UAB’s women, and Central Arkansas.

Timing for the meet will be provided by Prime Time Timing. A live results link can be found on the Mississippi State track and field schedule.

Full meet results and a recap will be posted following the completion of competition on each day of the meet.
