Brianna Lyston for Carifta Games Trials 2022

Edwin Allen’s twins Tina and Tia Clayton will run the sprint double, while Brianna Lyston will run the 200 meters at this weekend’s Carifta Games Trials in Kingston (Video Below).

In the 100 meters, world under-20 girls’ 100-meter champion Tina and her sister Tia will enter with seeded times of 11.76 and 11.82 seconds, respectively. They will face off with Alexis James of Petersfield and fellow Edwin Allen standout Serena Cole. James comes in with 11.58 and Cole at 11.70.

Lyston, the fastest at 100m with 11.51, will not run the 100m.

Brianna Lyston wins her season opener

Hydel’s pair of Kerrica Hill and Alana Reid, Shenese Walker of St. Jago, Kavel Ritchie of St. Catherine and William Knibb’s pair of Crystal Chambers and Lydia Chance are among the fastest this season.

Lyston and the Claytons are in for a battle royal in the under-20 girls’ 200 meters. They are the fastest this season, Clayton with 23.68 and Lyston, 24.09. Serena Cole is also at 24.09.
Walker, Reid, Carleta Bernard of Mount Alvernia, the under-17 champion last year, and Mickaila Haisley of Immaculate will add luster to the event.

Bryan Levell of Edwin Allen, of whom a lot is expected this year, along with Bouwahjgie Nkrumnie of Kingston College, are the ones to beat in the under-20 boys’ 100 meters.

Sandrey Davison of St. Catherine, DeAndre Daley of Herbert Morrison, Jamaica College’s (JC) pair of Hector Benjamin and Mark Anthony Miller, Alicke Cranston of STETHS and Terrique Stennett of Swept Track Club are also expected to be strong competitors. Levell will again lead the charge in the 200 meters. However, Davison, Benjamine, Daley and Lacovia’s Jhordane Morgan will want to spoil the show.

Dejanea Oakley is the favourite in the under-20 girls’ 400 meters.

  1. Was looking for the showdown in the 100 metres. The 200 metres would not be as hot as the 100 metres. Lyston has more endurance so she is favoured to win the 200 metres.
If the twin run 1st and 2nd in the 200 metres, would Lyston be a part of the 4 x 100 metres relay at the Games. Remember the girls who are running the 100 metres would be expecting a place on the 4 x 100 metres relay

  2. This is a smart move by Lyston coach. No need for her to run the double. I think the twins should have focused on one event as well. They have champs coming up. No need to push them this much, this early.

        • Wilbert Williams , plenty athletes do this and have long careers ! They haven’t ran much this season , they need races to be race sharp boss

          • Barrington Kemar Plenty athletes does it for sure. But the ones with long lasting careers with the very few exceptions are the ones who had modest outings as juniors…!

    • Barrington Kemar I know special care should be taken with the special ones. And Tina should be treated as someone with exceptional talent.

    • Wilbert Williams , bad comparison , she’s an injury prone athlete , nothing to do with Edwin Allen and she was managed well
