BLACKSBURG, Va. – Jamaican Clayton Brown finished second in the men’s triple jump at Friday’s (Jan 20) Hokie Invitational
Florida Gators Brown, the national leader in the high jump, hopped, skipped and jumped 16.34 meters (53 feet, 7.5 inches), the No. 6-ranked mark on the list.
The St. Andrew, Jamaica native finished as runner-up to teammate KeAndre Bates (16.37 meters/53 feet, 8.5 inches), who was a mere five centimeters off his indoor PR.
Entering this weekend, only two Division I men boasted marks better than 15.92 meters.
Gators head coach Mike Holloway spoke of Brown’s impressive performance.
“Thought we did a great job in the triple jumps. Clayton (Brown) opening up a little further than he jumped in high school, KeAndre (Bates) jumping a lot further than he did last year indoors,” said Holloway.
