Champs 2021: JC, Edwin Allen are champions

Jamaica College (JC) and Edwin Allen are Champs 2021 champions.

With two finals, 5,000m and 4x400m to go, JC can not be overtaken by KC, who is trailing by 29.5 points. KC can only score a maximum of 28 points in the final two events.

JC is on 320.5 points and safe, with KC second on 292 and Calabar 216.5.

Edwin Allen leads on 322 points on the girls’ side, 25.5 more than St. Jago, 296.5. Edwin Allen will have to fail to finish the Class 4 girls’ 4x100m final and 4x400m open for St. Jago to win.

4x100m finals

Tina Clayton took home Edwin Allen Class 2 girls to a new 4x100m record 44.81. Clayton, who was securing her third gold of Champs 2021, anchored her team home to beat the old mark of 44.88.
Aliyah Clarke, Tia Clayton, who false-started in the 100m, and Serena Cole were the other team members.

Hydel finished 2nd in 45.50 and St. Jago 3rd in 47.08.

St. Jago won both boys’ and girls’ 4x100m finals.

In the boys’ Class 1 final, St. Jago entered as the fastest qualifier and delivered in 39.75, just nipping the powerful STETHS, 39.82.
The battle for title honours continued with JC just edging out KC 40.21 to 40-point for the bronze medal.

JC, anchored by Christopher Scott, who celebrated early, ran away with Class 2 in 40.97. Calabar took 2nd in 41.31 and KC 3rd in 41.78.

St. Jago, thanks to a brilliant anchor leg from Shantae Foreman, who just left the long jump pit, won in 45.44 ahead of Hydel, 45.51 in Class 1.
Holmwood, who led up to the final five metres, finished third in 45.59.

Hydel won Class 3 in 46.44 ahead of St. Jago 46.94 and 47.62.

STETHS topped the Class 3 boys’ final in 43.01 ahead of Calabar 44.31 and JC 44.84.
