Khandale Frue and Kemarrio Bygrave of Jamaica College finished 1-2 in the Class 2 1500m with 4:12.16 and 4:13.26

Jamaica College (JC) closed the gap on Kingston College (KC) while Edwin Allen stretched their lead at the end of Thursday’s (13 May) ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Champs 2021.

At the end of day 3, JC, which started the day in joint 4th on 30 points and 25 less than the leaders, moved to 124.5, just 8.5 points behind Kingston College, 133.
Calabar High, 80, St. Elizabeth Technical, 70 and St. Jago High, 56 rounded off the top five teams.

Edwin Allen High, who started day 3 on 108 and 12 points more than St. Jago, will enter the penultimate day on 184. They lead St. Jago High, 158, Hydel High, 132, Holmwood Technical, 63.5 and Wolmer’s Girls School, 45.

Meanwhile, JC won two of three 1500m finals, while honours shared on the girls’ side.

Tyrone Lawson, 4:16.71 beat Charehon Connally of Maggotty, 4:21.84 and Khandale Frue, 4:12.16 and Kemarrio Bygrave, 4:13.26 got 1-2 to complete a reasonably good job for JC in classes 3 and 2.

Edwin Allen’s Chevonne Hall topped the Class 1 event in 3:59.70 ahead of Aron Tanui of KC, 3:59.86. JC, however, with Handal Roban, 4:01.48 and Jvoughnn Blake, 4:02.37 finished third and fourth respectively.

St. Jago’s Sancia Smith, 4:44.24, Edwin Allen’s Rickeisha Simms, 4:36.62 and Holmwood’s Andrene Peart, 4:50.36 were the classes 1, 2, and 3 1500m winners.

In the field, Latavia Galloway of St. Jago High won the girls’ javelin throw open with 41.95m.

Edwin Allen Serena Cole came up big in the Class 2 girls’ long jump final, taking gold with a leap of 6.10m. Aaliyah Foster of Mount Alvernia was next best with 5.90m.

Jaidi James of JC cleared 1.86m to take the top spot in the Class 3 boys’ high jump. Edward Sterling of Wolmer’s took second with 1.80m.

In the 4x400m, JC with 3:12.36 recorded the fastest preliminary round time. Excelsior, 3:15.43, Holmwood, 3:12.99 and KC, 3:15.90 are the next best teams going into Saturday’s final.

Hydel, 3:44.56, Vere, 3:45.01, St. Jago, 3:45.18 and Edwin Allen 3:46.94 are the top girls’ teams after the semi-final round.
