Briana Williams wins at SDF/JAAA Jubilee Series at JC on 4 June 2022

The National Stadium in Kingston was the center of the athletic world recently as the Camperdown Classic 2023 meeting took place, featuring some of Jamaica’s top sprinters. Among the highlighted winners were Titans Track Club’s Ackeem Blake and Briana Williams, who captured the men’s and women’s Invitational 60 meters titles, respectively.

Briana Williams Takes Women’s 60 Meters by Storm

Briana Williams, the 2021 Olympic 4x100m relay gold medalist, set the pace in the women’s race with her solid winning time of 7.22 seconds. The 20-year-old recently relocated to Jamaica to train with Yohan Blake and demonstrated her progress with this impressive performance to start the new season.

Williams easily finished ahead of Jura Levy of Legacy Athletics (7.34 seconds) and Rohanna Wright of Swept TC. In her post-race interview, Williams expressed her excitement about her training, saying, “I am enjoying training” and revealed her goal for the night was to work on her 100m, which she felt went well.

Ackeem Blake Edges Out Yohan Blake in Men’s 60 Meters

In the men’s 60m, Ackeem Blake just beat out his training partner and 2011 World 100m champion Yohan Blake to take the top spot. Ackeem posted a winning time of 6.63 seconds, with Yohan just behind at 6.64 seconds.

The Camperdown Classic 2023 meeting was a showcase for several of Jamaica’s young high school talents, as well as a chance for professionals to kick-start their seasons.
