Veronica Campbell-Brown

In almost three years, Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown had her first race and is happy with the result.

Campbell-Brown ran 7.34 seconds to finish second behind American teenage star Tamari Davis, 7.18 at Saturday’s (6 Feb) East Coast Invitational in Virginia Beach.

The Jamaican ran 7.43s to win her prelims heat.

She described the start to the season as “descent start to my 2021 athletics campaign,”

Campbell-Brown, competing for the first time since giving birth in 2019, admitted she needs more work.

“There is a lot of work to be done, but I am up for the challenge,” she said in her social media post.

With an indoor best of 7.00 flat and two world indoor 60m titles from 2010 and 2012, Campbell-Brown will celebrate her 39th birthday in May.

She is the 10th fastest on the all-time list of 60m sprinters.

Campbell-Brown last outdoor race was an 11.50secs run in Tomblaine, France in June 2018.

“Wife, mother, entrepreneur, athlete, author, philanthropist…I am trusting God every step of the way. He gifted me with potential, and I am here to push the limits,” she wrote.

She was also racing for the first time competitively in her VCB fit gear.

“Wearing an @vcbfit sample top. Should we produce it for sale?” she questioned.
