Barbados’ Mario Burke was the fifth fastest qualifier in the Men’s 100m heats, coming from the opening session Day I (Tuesday) of the 2016 IAAF World Under-20 Championships at the Zawisza Stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Burke ran 10.33 to top the final heat of the morning while Jamaica’s Raheem Chambers managed 10.45 to finish third and secured one of the three automatic positions.
Jhevaughn Matherson, Jamaica’s other entrant, did 10.47 to finish behind Brazilian Paulo Andre De Olivira, 10.31, and Khairil Jantan (MAS) 10.44 in heat 1.
Jaquone Hoyte of Barbados, 10.58 qualified as one of the fastest losers while Akanni Hislop of Trinidad and Tobago did not make it from heat 1 with his 10.88.
Hakeem Huggins (SKN) did not start.
In the long jump, Shawn D. Thompson, 7.33m and Obrien Wasome, who failed to register a legal mark, will watch the rest of the meet from the stands.
