On this day, 16th August 2009, Usain Bolt improved on his world 100m record (Video Below).

Bolt, who at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games ran a world record 9.69s, lowered the mark a year later to 9.58.

It was the day the Jamaican won his first world title. He previously won the Olympic Games title in 2008.

“#OnThisDay in 2009 the 100m World Record belong to the Country Yute,” Bolt boasted in a social media post on Sunday.

After the world record run, Bolt told journalists he was feeling good after the semis.

“I was definitely ready for the World record and I did it,” Bolt said.

“It’s a great time, a great feeling, I feel good in myself and I knew I could do it.

Tyson Gay clocked 9.71 for second place, a national record, that was just 0.02 shy of the previous World mark.

Former World record holder Asafa Powell took bronze for the second consecutive championships, in 9.84.
