Two of Jamaica’s rising stars Kevona Davis and Kemba Nelson will face-off Friday (12 Feb) at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Two of Jamaica’s rising stars Kevona Davis and Kemba Nelson will face-off Friday (12 Feb) at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Oregon’s Nelson, who two weeks ago, ran a personal best of 7.19 is down to compete in heat one of the women’s 60m dash. She should qualify easily from heat.

University of Texas’ Davis, whose only 60m to date ended in 7.34 seconds, will have a more challenging heat two. She will face Tamara Clark of Alabama, who has a season-best of 7.26 and Florida’s Semira Killebrew will enter with 7.34.

However, Davis should get into the final base on her personal best time. Heat winners and the next five best times will qualify for the final.

The heats will run off at 3:10 pm (Jamaica time) and the final at 4:45 pm.

Two other Jamaicans, Jhevaughn Matherson, representing Florida State, and Oregon’s Xavier Nairne, will contest the men’s 60m.

Jamaicans will clash again in the men’s 60m hurdles. Damion Thomas, the World U20 sprint hurdles champion, will face-off with Phillip Lemonious. Thomas, whose season-best is 7.71, represents LSU and Arkansas’ Lemonious Arkansas has a season-best of 7.79.

Florida’s Trey Cunningham is the fastest in the field this season with 7.64.

Daszay Freeman, formerly of Manchester High and The Queens’ School, is down to run the 60m hurdles.

Jamaicans Sanique Walker and Stacey-Ann Williams, both Texas Longhorn athletes, are down to contest heat one of the women’s 400m.
