Dina Asher-Smith became the latest high-profile sprinter to qualify for the women’s 100m at the Tokyo Olympics.

Asher-Smith’s official winning time was 10.96 at Saturday’s (26 June) British Olympic trials. Initially, Asher-Smith was timed in a new British record of 10.71 seconds. The world 200m champion was excited with the time, which saw her jumping for joy and being congratulated, only for the official to revise it to 10.97.

“It’s okay. I feel like I can (run that time),” Asher-Smith said.
She continued: “If i’m being honest, it did not feel like one of those runs (10.7), so I was surprised.”

She, however, said she is “disappointed because the clock was clearly, incredibly out, but im sure it’s in there, and I am happy to have won today.”

Asha Philip finished second in 11.16.

Asher-Smith now joined other high-profiled sprinters from Jamaica, the USA and Nigeria.
