Asafa Powell, after his run in Boston at the New Balance Boston Grand Prix, spoke about his performance, Olympic Games, Jamaica’s young male sprinters, retirement, 100th sub-10.

“Game plan was to feel out the legs,” he said of his Boston run of 6.71 for fifth.

He said the focus is National Trials and Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

“We are going hard now in practice,” he said in his preparation for the 2020 season.

“Just approach 2020 season cautious… main gold is to stay healthy and cautious,” he added.

He said Tokyo 2020 would be his fifth and last Olympic Games. “Looking forward to bring back Jamaica in the sprints,” he said.

Powell said it’s very important for him to be in Japan this summer. And he doesn’t just plan to appear at the Olympic Games; he is targeting his first individual medal. “To be on the podium, a top of the podium would be the greatest accomplishment for me, and I am just aiming for that.”

About getting to 100th sub-10 times to his name, Powell promised: “this year it will be a walk in the park.”

On his retirement, Powell said he would decide at the end of the 2020 season.
“After the season I will see how my body feels,” added Powell.

Powell also sends a warning to young make sprinters.
He, however, on the girls’ side, “we are very solid.”
