Former world 100m record holder Asafa Powell is not giving up on making Jamaica’s team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games next summer.

Powell, who has suffered injury setbacks in recent years, is hoping to be healthy in time for the showpiece event in the Japanese city.

“My objective is to stay healthy and focus on training,” said Powell, whose only Olympic Games medal was a 4x100m gold from Rio 2016.

Powell, many believe has been chasing three more sub-10 times, which would bring him to 100m. However, according to the sub-10 king, that’s not his main focus.

He said he would “stop thinking about achieving those last few sub10’s” because “once I’m healthy, the sub10’s will follow.”

“I definitely want to be a part of the Olympic team and do my part to bring Team Jamaica’s sprinting back to the forefront,” he told SportsMax TV.

Powell, who turns 37 on Saturday (November 23), said: “In terms of health, I’m a lot better than I was last year this time.”
