KINGSTON, Jamaica – Asafa Powell, former 100-meter world record holder, participated in his child’s sports day in Kingston. Powell, who took to social media to share his experience, revealed to his followers that he had made a promise to only use 30% of his speed during the event.

In a lighthearted post, Powell, 39, shared a picture of himself at the event alongside the caption, “made a promise to only use 30% of my speed 👀😀.” The athlete, who retired from international competition in 2019, seemed to have enjoyed the experience, writing, “had a great day my first parents race, proud of team yellow house.”

Powell’s participation in his child’s sports day is similar to that of fellow Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who also took part in her child’s event last month. Fraser-Pryce, a five-time world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, competed in a 100-meter race at her son’s school in Kingston.

The involvement of high-profile athletes like Powell and Fraser-Pryce in their children’s sports day events is a reminder of the importance of parental involvement in sports and the positive impact it can have on children’s development.
