Asafa Powell goes in search of his 98th sub-10 seconds clocking at the 69th Hanžeković Memorial, an  IAAF World Challenge meeting in Zagreb on 3 September.

Powell, the former world 100m record holder at 9.77secs, should fancy his chances of dipping below the 10-sec barrier on the new tartan track.

Leading the field in the 100m will be the current World Champion, Justin Gatlin. Gatlin ran 9.87 in June, which is only two-hundredths of a second slower than the Zagreb meeting record held by the world record holder Usain Bolt since 2011.

Gatlin will share the field in Zagreb with Divine Oduduru, who is second in the IAAF world rankings with 9.86, Arthur Cissé, fifth in the IAAF rankings with 9.93, and Aaron Brown, who is ninth with 9.96.

Zagreb’s last year’s winner Michael Rodgers is also in the field.

  1. Even without a major individual gold Powell should easily go down as one of the 10 best sprinters of all time and the best starter ever….. Julia! Gfy

  2. I’ve followed Asafa for many years and watched how he maintained his professionalism and high rate of training, even though he was clearly overtaken by Bolt. Most athletes would have given up and given in by now. To still be able to compete at such a high level says alot about Asafa! Good luck on September 3rd and keep on going from there.
