Legendary sprinter Asafa Powell turned 40 years old on Wednesday (23 Nov). He held a big birthday and retirement party in Kingston.

“Was a great week of celebrating my birthday and officially putting down my spikes , opening a new chapter in my life,” Powell tweeted after the party.

He also promoted his foundation, according to information from his agent Paul Doyle. 

During his long and superb career, Powell won Olympic Games relay gold in 2016 and World Relay gold medals in 2009 and 2015. 

He won two individual 100m bronze medals at the World Championships, Osaka 2007 and Berlin 2009. Powell ran in three Olympic Games 100m finals. He won World Indoor 60m silver in 2016. 

Powell clocked 97 legal sub-10 times, according to the statistic website tilastopaja. He achieved three World records, 9.77 in Athens 2005, 9.77 in Gateshead 2006 and 9.74 in Rieti 2007. 

His PB is 9.72 from Athletissima in Lausanne 2008. His last official individual result was windy 10.07 in Clermont on May 2, 2021.
