Former Calabar High quarter-miler Anthony Carpenter is now a student at Mico University College.

Carpenter, who spent six years at Calabar High, helped them to win the ISSA Boys and Girls Championships title on all occasions. He also played crucial roles in many 4x400m relay teams with the most memorable, 3:03.79s, a high school record, at Penn Relays

He won 400m silver at Class 1 in 2017 and 2018 at Champs. In Class 2, he won bronze and silver in the one-lap event. At Class 3, he pocketed the 200m bronze.

The 20-year-old sprinter helped Jamaica to bronze in the 4x400m at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz 2016.

Carpenter also won 4x100m and 4x400m bronze medals for Jamaica at the Pan American U20 Championships in 2017.

Helsinki 1983 World 400m champion Bertland Cameron, Mico’s head coach, will be in charge of Carpenter’s program. Cameron also coaches World U20 gold medallist Tiffany James.

Alex Williams, who won the Javelin at Champs 2018 for Herbert Morrison and Kingston College (KC) earlier this year, is also attending Mico.

  1. I think it’s a very bad decision with all due respect bert haven’t produced anyone worth talking about since jermain g I think he’d be a better fit at mvp or taking up a scholarship in a good school in the USA i

  2. Shernett Clarke I understand him not running 100 at high schoo because of calabar sprinters but need to now at the international level but still train at 400

  3. Yes. Congratulations Anthony. You are one of our future quarter miler. Can’t wait to see you and Christopher Taylor taking up the mantle.
