It is expected to be another exciting staging of the 1-year old event, when this year’s Aliann Pompey Invitational goes off on July 15th at the Leonora Stadium.
Inspired by some dedicated sponsors, the organizers are determined to repeat last year’s success by putting together an international field to participate in a spectator friendly schedule of events Athletes from the last staging, expected to return are Eddie Lovett (USVI), Kenike Alexander (St. Vincent), Brycen Spratlin (USA), as well as Guyana’s best – 400m women’s champion Kadecia Baird, 2016 Fly-Jamaica women’s 100m champion Brenessa Thompson and GOA men’s 400m runner-up Winston George.
George will be challenged by Stephan James and Jermaine Griffith who have been challenging each other this season, each the 400m indoor national record. James is attending the Mississippi State University, while Griffith is at Rutgers University.
Returning sponsors are GOA, IAAF, ConSudAtle and Ramada (Princess) Hotel. The event is also supported by the Ministry of Education and Trackalerts.com.
Commenting on the meet, founder and 2002 Commonwealth Games 400m champion Pompey said, “I am excited for this year’s edition of the AP Invitational. Last year I committed to making it an annual event and this will be a true test of the ability to do so. I am grateful for the sponsors that have already committed and finalized their contributions.”

The cost of general admission will remain the same ($1,000) and VIP admission will be $5,000.
