RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Two-time Olympic 200m gold medallist, Veronica Campbell-Brown, said she will have to move on from her disappointment in the women’s half lap event and turn her attention to the 4x100m here at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Campbell-Brown, the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games champion, finished third in her first round heat and will take no further part in the event.
The distinguished Jamaican who didn’t look her usual self, finished third in 22.97 behind 2016 world junior champion, Edidiong Ofonime Odiong (BRN), 22.74 and Semoy Hackett (TTO), 22.78.
“I am not even going to get into what happened, because I cant change it, I just have to move on,” said Campbell-Brown, who later in the interview added “It was a terrible execution, that’s all I can say.”
“I learn to give thanks in all things and so, I just have to move on and look forward to what is next,” continued the 2011 world 200m champion.
The Jamaican female team captain will now turn her attention to the 4x100m.
“One more event the 4x100m, so I will go out with my teammates and do our best in that, and then move on to the rest of my season,” explained Campbell, who is also the 2007 World 100m champion.
“I have been through worse in my life, so this is not such a crazy hurdle to get over,” she replied when asked if she will be ready for the relays.
She continued: “It is a position I have never been in before. I don’t know why things happen, but sometimes, you just don’t meet your desire, but as I said I have to learn to move from things I don’t really understand or things (that) don’t turn out the way I want it.”
Asked if this is her last Olympic Games, “I don’t know, I can’t say now. I have to see, take it one season at a time.”
I want to know why she time and time again runs OUT of her lane and into the lane of someone else. I just dont get that.
