St. Jago and Edwin Allen, barring any unforeseen circumstances, should be crowned 2016 Digicel Grand Prix champions on Saturday (20 Feb) at GC Foster College.
The winning schools on points after the Grand Prix final will each win $1 million worth of sporting equipment.
Michael Dyke, Edwin Allen’s coach, described his chances as “extremely good.”??“I’m not supposeD to lose, based on what I have going in,” said coach Dyke.
The Frankfield-based school is going into the final at the GC Foster Classic with 133 points, 46 points more than nearest rivals Excelsior on 87 points.
St. Jago are next on 77 points while Wolmer’s have 62 points.
Meanwhile, the Monk Street-based St. Jago boys team is leading 2015 Boys’ Champs winner, Calabar by 46 points, 156 to 110.
St. Jago’s coach Danny Hawthorne said they are in a very good position to win, but he wants more at GC Foster College on Saturday.
“The possibilities are great,” were Danny Hawthorne’s first words. However, he continued: “I’m not just into just winning that (Grand Prix), I am trying to get the guys to maximize their performances and Saturday is just another day where we will come out and showcase what we are made of and hope that is an improvement for the greater days, which is Champs.”
Kingston College (KC) trailed the top two with 86 points, last year’s champions St. Elizabeth Technical 76 and Munro 62.
