LJ: Great Britain’s Greg Rutherford completed the gold medal set, winning the world crown to add to his titles in the Olympics, Europeans and Commonwealths. 18 year old Wang Jianan won China’s first medal in the long jump at a world championships, taking bronze.

800m: David Rudisha is the third athlete, after Billy Konchellah and Wilson Kipketer, to win multiple golds in this event at the world championships. In winning bronze, Amel Tuka won Bosnia and Herzegovina’s first medal in this event at the world championships.

1500m: The women’s 1500m was won in 4:08.09, the slowest winning time in world championships history; the previous slowest time was 4:05.40, set in 2011. Genzebe Dibaba won Ethiopia’s first world title in the women’s 1500m, bronze was their previous highest placing. Faith Kipyegon won silver for Kenya, the country’s best finish in this race in championships history. Bronze medallist Sifan Hassan won the Netherland’s first medal in the women’s event at a world championships. On the other hand Dibaba clocked in second 800 m 1:57.

400mH: Athletes from Kenya, Russia and the Bahamas made the podium in the men’s final, the first time any of these countries has made the medal stand in this event at a world championships.

DT: Denia Caballero won Cuba’s first gold in the women’s discus at a world championships.
