Martin Manley won Jamaica’s first gold medal at the World Youth Olympics Games here in Nanjing, China on Saturday.

Manley, the 2013 IAAF World Youth champion, topped the 400m field in 46.31 seconds to ahead of Botswana’s Karuba Sibanda 46.76 and Henri Delauze of Bahamas 46.91.

“I’m happy to end my season with a bang,” he said. “What do I put my success down to? Training. I love training. I’m a hard-working athlete. 

“Everything in track and field is hard, and training is the hardest part. But the easy part is winning.”

Meanwhile, Janel Fullerton topped the field in the women’s discuss throw Final B with a throw of 43.36 metres.

Jaheel Hyde and Raheem Chambers will go for gold medals later in their respective events.
