Jamaica’s Jaheel Hyde became the first youth athlete to run under 13 seconds on Saturday’s fourth day of track and field at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China.

Hyde blazed to 12.96s and in the process beat the previous world youth record of 13.12 set by Wilhem Belocian of France in June 2012.

Henrik Hannemann of Germany was a distant second in 13.40 while Gyoengtae Kim of Korea finished third in 13.43s, both personal best times.

Hyde now holds all three major titles for junior athletes – World Youth 110m hurdles won in 2013, and World Junior 400m hurdles won earlier this summer.

He now has the seven fastest world youth times 12.96, 13.16, 13.19, 13.32 (twice), 13.33 and 13.36 – done in the world this year.
